Little Scholars Policy

1. Our Philosophy

At Little Scholars Daycare ECS, we know each child is unique, therefore we are sensitive to their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs.  We provide a loving, nurturing, and creative environment for children.  Our philosophy is simple – we will strive to provide a warm, secure and safe environment together with the highest quality educational services for children and their families.

It is our commitment to give every child a happy, stimulating atmosphere that promotes fun and a love for learning. We will achieve this by:

  1. Loving what we do
  2. Approaching everything with a profound and personal respect for the individual
  3. Pursuing everything we do with honesty and integrity
  4. Creating a safe and dynamic environment that everyone can enjoy
  5. Providing educational services that enhance lifelong learning
  6. Continuously raising our standards of service to our community

2. Positive Environment:

To promote a positive and safe environment, creating an atmosphere that supports children’s mental and physical well-being is essential. This requires the following:

Establishing strong relationships with children, which can be achieved through:

  • Dedicating consistent and meaningful time to the child to showcase their significance and foster positive attention.
  • Applauding positive actions and offering praise.
  • Active listening and empathy towards the child’s emotions.
  • Maintaining respectful and dignified communication with the child.
  • Encouraging enjoyable one-on-one interactions with the child on a daily basis.

By prioritizing these practices, we will foster positive behaviour and build a foundation of trust and open communication with children.

3. Enhancing Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is a crucial factor in personal development that can be developed through intentional effort. Caregivers play a significant role in helping children build a positive self-image, which has a lasting impact on behaviour, achievements, and overall well-being. Here are some strategies to enhance self-confidence in children:

Promote a Positive Attitude

A positive attitude can have a significant impact on building self-confidence in children. Show affection and celebrate accomplishments to help develop a sense of self-worth and importance. It is important to remember that self-confidence is developed through interactions with others, so caregivers play a crucial role in the child’s development.

4. Encourage Problem-Solving

Challenging children to solve problems that are appropriate for their developmental level can help boost self-confidence. Providing guidance and encouragement when they face difficulties, and celebrating their achievements when they succeed, can enhance self-confidence. Encouraging children to take on tasks slightly beyond their skill level helps them learn and grow, building their self-confidence in the process.

5. Discipline Policy

Little Scholars Daycare ECS recognizes each child as an individual person. It is essential that a child’s development is nurtured through caring, patience and understanding.

It is always a challenge to provide the proper discipline for each child individually, but by providing asimple explanation to limits, each child will develop the communication skills necessary for their early childhood development. Projecting a positive attitude is essential in reinforcing appropriate behavior.

Young children do not develop well when they are pressured, frightened, threatened or punished. As a parent, you may have some concerns or wish to offer suggestions and we will welcome them. Little Scholars will put their best to follow the same guidelines and limits that you may have already set, and you can take comfort in knowing. We will offer the best care possible for your child.

Child Guidance Policy Must Be:

  • Individualized and consistent for each child.
  • Appropriate to the child’s level of understanding
  • Directed toward teaching the child acceptable behaviour and self-control.

Children’s interactions with one another will be carefully watched so that they learn to respect oneanother. Under No circumstances will children be humiliated, neglected, isolated, spoken to in a harshmanner, deprived of food or other basic needs, or spanked.

6. Nutrition

At our childcare facility, we prioritize the well-being of every child in our care. Nutrition is a central part of promoting a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. To support this, we have implemented the following practices:

Parent Choice in Meal Provision

Parents may choose either of the following options:
This decision is entirely up to the parents. A family’s choice does not affect their child’s admission or enrollment status at the daycare.

Nutrition Standards

All meals and snacks supplied by the daycare follow Alberta Health Guide and the Canada Food Guide.

We provide a balanced variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins.

By following these recommendations, childcare programs can provide children with access to a well-balanced and nutritious diet that supports their overall health and well-being.
